The new year is special for the whole world, said Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias, after the divine service in Agia, Volos, on the occasion of the feast day of Saint Anthony.
Metropolitan Ignatius said that despite the scientific and technological progress, there is a great spiritual vacuum, due to constant controversies, civil wars, confusion and people’s anxiety.
“In Europe, unity is at stake, while the Balkans are looking for their own way in the modern world. Greece, at the same time, is seeking to find new perspectives. What’s that element that unites us and what makes us stand out from the funnel of globalization, which has become a means of exploitation of people? It is our Orthodox faith that brings us all together today. This faith brings together all the Greeks from all over the world,” said Metropolitan Ignatius.
He also added that “times are crucial for our country, history and Church. We must rise to the occasion. Wisdom and prudence will save us, as well as truth and unity. This is what I wish with all my heart, to those who have responsibilities, to everyone, our lords and family leaders, our teachers and priests. I wish us all to remain united, to face any difficulties, for the sake of our country and our children”.
