Today, we commemorate Saint Gerasimos of Jordan, Akaki, and Saint Gregory, Bishop of Cyprus.
Saint Gerasimos, born to devout parents in Lycia around the 7th century AD, initially strayed into the heresy of Monophysitism, an error that elevated the divine nature of Jesus Christ at the expense of His humanity. However, guided by a pure conscience and humble spirit, he embarked on a journey of spiritual growth, seeking counsel from renowned ascetics and scholars. Through their guidance and his own introspection, Saint Gerasimos recognized his deviation from orthodox faith and returned to the traditional teachings of the Church with heartfelt repentance.
Renowned for his rigorous asceticism, Saint Gerasimos established a monastic community near the Jordan River, where he dedicated himself to a life of prayer, fasting, and service. His legacy endures through the continuation of this spiritual fraternity, which persists to this day, a testament to his enduring impact on the Christian community.
