As a caring and practical response to the growing number of Melbourne’s homeless and disadvantaged the “Five Loaves” initiative is expanding to multiple parishes.
With the blessing of Archbishop Markarios of Australia, Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis met with Parish priests from the District of Melbourne and the Five Loaves team to discuss the expansion of the Program into their parishes.
The Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in South Yarra will be the first parish to begin on Thursday, September 8, cooking, packaging and distributing hot meals.
On Sunday, September 11, they will also be involved in a family, fun sandwich making day. This program will continue every week in a different parish.
Once again, this Thursday the Five Loaves team, prepared an amazing meal of roast chicken, pesto pasta, rice and vegetables, rizogalo (Greek rice pudding) and home baked cakes, which they offered to many people belonging to disadvantaged groups.
Those interested in participating in the initiative can contact the parish priest of their local parish.
