Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, who is in Cyprus these days, visited the Presidential Palace on Monday morning, where he met with the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, in the presence of the Presidential Commissioner Mr. Fotis Fotiou, and the Deputy Spokeswoman, Ms. Klelia Vassiliou.
The Patriarch thanked the President of the Republic as well as the local Church of Cyprus and its Primate, Archbishop Chrysostomos, for what he constantly offers to the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
After the meeting, Patriarch Theodore told reporters that “whenever I come to Cyprus I feel it as a place of my own. Wherever I find myself, I am fighting for the rights of Cyprus. Indeed, on Good Friday, I proclaimed that the bell tower on the Geri we are preparing will proclaim that Orthodoxy and Hellenism will live on forever”.
Theodore also met with Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou, whom he thanked for the success of the expatriate congress in Egypt.
The Patriarch of Alexandria then met with Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis, who welcomed him in a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
Patriarch Theodore briefed the Minister on the daily mission work throughout the Black Continent, while the Minister said that the Government always supported the mission and listened to the needs of each country so that it would send appropriate representatives for the people.
Afterwards, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria met with the Minister of Defense, Mr. Savvas Angelides.
Last but not least, the Head of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris, had a meeting with the Patriarch of Alexandria as well.
