A delegation of the Church of Crete, consisting of Archbishop Irenaeus of Crete, Metropolitans Makarios of Gortyni and Arkadia, and Amfilochios of Kissamos and Selino, the Chief Secretary of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete, Archimandrite Prodromos Xenakis, and the Legal Adviser, Dimitris Milathianakis, had a meeting this morning with the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, Domna Michaelidou.
During the meeting, the delegation of the Holy Synod informed the Deputy Minister about the multifaceted and multidimensional charitable, social and welfare work being done by the Ecclesiastical Eparchies of the Church of Crete for the benefit of our weak fellow human beings who are in need. In addition, a detailed Memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Minister regarding relevant requests from several Institutes and Charities of the Church of Crete, as well as a request for the participation of the Church of Crete in Community Service Projects.
Deputy Minister Michaelidou said that her Ministry will consider all the possibilities to support the many and valuable Charitable and Social Welfare Structures of the Ecclesiastical Eparchies of the Church of Crete, stressing that the charity and social work of the Church is of great importance and relieves a large number of people, deprived of basic social goods. In addition, she assured the Delegation that the Ministry of Labor will assist any action by the Church of Crete to support and increase its charity work.
