Former Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who has been living in London for the past few years, presented yesterday, his institution’s report on the Kremlin intervention and Russian secret services in foreign countries, including Greece, to a special committee of the European Parliament.
According to the information gathered by the Khodorkovsky group and presented to the European Parliament, Russian special envoys supported specific political forces in Greece in order to create policies – subordinates.
They also planned to create a pro-Russian party, while aiming to cultivate an anti-European and anti-American sentiment in Greece.
In particular, in his report on Greece, Khodorkovsky said:
“Eugene Prigogine’s associates were coming to Greece to examine the possibilities of influencing the politics of the country and the EU in its entirety.
We have reasonable suspicions that they planned to support pro-Kremlin candidates in the local elections.
On this basis, the creation of a pro-Kremlin party in Europe was planned, as well as the use of controlled policies to redistribute the resources of the elites in favor of Russian companies.
Kremlin political analysts noted that for 2019 there were already 15 politicians waiting for the Kremlin’s help.
12 of them are active mayors, one deputy mayor, one active regional governor, and one candidate for regional governor.
They also say that there are still about 30 pro-Kremlin municipalities, with which contacts have been established and further work is needed. Thessaloniki and Athens are highlighted separately.
We have documents according to which the Kremlin political analysts planned to strengthen the anti-European and anti-American sentiments among the candidates.
In our view, Prigogine’s structures are closely linked to the FSB (Russian secret service) and the Russian Ministry of Defense.”
