The knobs of the 1,500-year-old central gate of the Church have been broken, cables hanging all over and there are multiple signs printed on A4 paper to distinguish the different sites inside Hagia Sophia, ethnos.gr reports.
Just one year after Hagia Sophia opened its doors as a mosque, it’s being lamented by Turkish social media users, who complain that instead the monument being better protected as it is now a mosque –as the Turkish President promised– it is not being taken care of at all.
There is dust everywhere and especially shoe racks where the Muslim worshipers place their shoes before entering the mosque to pray.
In addition, the knobs and handles of the 1,500 years old gate have been broken, cables hanging all over and multiple signs printed on A4 paper to distinguish the different sites are some of the messy things that have been widely photographed, posted and commented on social media by visitors.
