The Greek President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, sent a message from Mytilene, where she was today for the Feast of the Dormtion of the Theotokos, that the Turkish provocation and aggression “do not scare us.”
“We have full respect for the principles of dialogue and good neighborliness and our ally is international law. We are in constant communication and cooperation with our partners and we utilize all possible diplomatic channels,” the President of the Hellenic Republic stressed after the Doxology at the Holy Temple of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Agiasos, Lesvos.
The president stressed that Panagia may “have slept”, but she did not forget the “world.” Our people reciprocate this, considering her the eternal mother, nurturer and protector, the one who has spiritual wakefulness and mediates.
“Today, while being in Lesvos, with so many churches dedicated to the Virgin Mary, I think how rich is the emotional bond that our people has developed with Her, giving her almost five hundred poetic nicknames. How much our people has loved her, how beautifully they have praised her, how often they have turned to her care and assistance. Deeply rooted in our national and spiritual tradition from the Byzantine era, she was not only the refuge and the holy roof, but also the Champion General who inspired strength, unity and solidarity in difficult times. The strength, unity and solidarity we need today in the face of the pandemic trials and financial insecurity. And in particular, in the face of the threat and questioning of our sovereign rights by the Turkish leadership,” she stressed.
