In the presence of Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, the Church of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tanta will reopen on Friday, January 31, a historic temple for the Greek community that once thrived in this area of Egypt, some one hundred kilometers north.
Now, after the merger of the Greek Community of Tanta with the Greek Community of Cairo, the temple is owned by the latter, which has spent a considerable amount of money on its renovation.
As was announced, the official consecration ceremony (thyranoixia) of the temple will take place soon after the completion of renovation work.
During yesterday’s Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria, the Patriarch of Alexandria was satisfied with the reopening of this temple, and with the work carried out throughout the territory of the Church of Alexandria to preserve the history and tradition, the Orthodox faith and the Greek community, as the Patriarch said.
It is noteworthy that Tanta is the fifth largest populated area of Egypt, near the Nile Delta, with approximately half a million inhabitants and is located 94 km north of Cairo and 130 km southeast of Alexandria.
