The Greek National Defence Minister, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, met today with the Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa as part of his official visit to Egypt.
The Minister received a thorough briefing from Patriarch Theodore on the work, offering and missions of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Egypt and throughout Africa.
For his part, the Patriarch wished in favour of the Greek army and expressed his gratitude for the contribution of the Motherland to the Hellenism of Egypt that keeps alive the presence of Romiosyne and Orthodoxy in the region, confirming the excellent relations between Greece and Egypt.
N. Panagiotopoulos was given a tour of the Patriarchal Museums and the Monuments of the Patriarchs, while his visit ended with meetings he had with officials of the Greek community of Alexandria.
Tomorrow, the Minister, accompanied by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros will attend the joint interdisciplinary exercise of Greece and Egypt “Medusa 10”, in the sea area of Alexandria.
In addition to units of the Greek and Egyptian Armed Forces, the exercise involves aeronautical forces and special operation units from Cyprus, France and the United Arab Emirates.
