The Greek government put a halt to the municipalities that intended to deliver the Holy Fire at the believers’ homes on the Holy Saturday night, through the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias.
“We cannot allow such a thing because it is dangerous,” said Mr. Hardalias, noting that “if other municipalities want to take similar initiatives, there is a real risk that would invalidate our efforts so far.” He also added that “the image of hundreds of municipal employees on the streets pose a risk of spreading the virus.”
Mr. Hardalias announced that he has already contacted the president of the Municipalities Union (KEDE), Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, to convey to him the intention of the Government, after announcements by other municipalities that they intend to deliver the Holy Fire in the same way as the Municipality of Argyroupolis – Elliniko.
The Deputy Minister meaningfully noted that “this year the Holy Fire will enlighten the hearts of all of us, in a different way.”
