Foreign Armed Forces will be visiting Greece to commemorate the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution (1821) on Thursday, March 25, as Greek fighter jets and helicopters fly over cities nationally.
The following events are scheduled in and around Athens, in brief:
- The French frigate ‘Languedoc’ will be docked at Piraeus port on Friday; it arrived on Monday.
- The Russian frigate ‘Admiral Fiota Kasatonov’ will be at Piraeus from Tuesday to Friday.
- Ships of the Hellenic Navy will be visiting ports in Greece from Wednesday to Thursday.
- A 21-gun salute will be carried out from Lycabettus Hill at 06:21 on Thursday. It will be repeated at 08:31 and at 18:41.
- The Greek flag will be hoisted at the Acropolis at 08:00 on Thursday and taken down at 18:41.
- A celebratory liturgy will be held at the Athens Cathedral at 08:30, led by Archbishop Hieronymos of Athens and All Greece.
- At 09:20, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and visiting dignitaries will lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square.
- The military parade will begin at 10:00 with the backdrop of the Unknown Soldier’s Tomb. It will be observed by the president and visitors. During the parade, fighter jets and helicopters will fly over various sections of Greece, from 10:00 to 11:00.
