The European perspective of the Western Balkans and the strengthening of regional cooperation were at the centre of a Greece-Bulgaria-Croatia-Romania foreign ministers’ meeting held in New York on Tuesday afternoon. The ministers discussed enlargement issues concerning North Macedonia and Albania.
“I think it is a good step for the Balkan foreign ministers to be able to exchange views. We reach common positions that concern our common interests and the common wider region within the European Union,” Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said after the meeting.
Dendias sent the message that Greece is leaving introversion behind and is ready to play an active role internationally. “Greece, after ten years of crisis, is emerging from its isolation – where it was led by the crisis – [looking] with confidence to the Balkans, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Europe and the world,” he stressed.
