With great splendor, the great Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord and God and our Savior Jesus Christ was celebrated at the homonymous Church in Nea Ionia.
On the eve of the feast, Monday, August 5, 2019, the Great Festal Vesper was performed, by Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia, while plenty of clergymen attended.
On the day of the feast, Tuesday, August 6, the Metropolitan of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia officiated the Orthros and then performed the Festive Divine Liturgy, assisted by clergymen of the Holy Metropolis.
In his speech, the Metropolitan referred to St. Gregory Palamas’ discourse on Divine Transfiguration and spoke of the Lord’s supreme miracle, revealing the inseparable splendor of His divinity, urging the faithful people to begin their metaphysical journey with repentance and obedience to the will of God.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy and according to the church custom, the Metropolitan blessed the grapes.
