At noon on Saturday, October 5, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, accompanied by Archbishop Makarios of Australia and Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, visited the official residence of the Prime Minister in Sydney, at the kind invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The Ecumenical Patriarch had an extensive and fruitful discussion with Prime Minister Albanese, whom he first thanked for his honorary presence at the official Doxology, held earlier that same day at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation.
In a cordial atmosphere, matters of mutual interest were discussed, particularly concerning the Greek community and the Orthodox Church in Australia. The Ecumenical Patriarch expressed his satisfaction with the positive institutional cooperation between the Australian Government and the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, as well as the sincere personal friendship between the Prime Minister and Archbishop Makarios.
It is noted that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, along with Archbishop Makarios of Australia and Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, signed the guest book at the Prime Minister’s Residence.
Ecumenical Patriarch’s visit to Governor of New South Wales
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew received a warm welcome from the Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley, at the Government House in Sydney on Saturday, October 5, at noon.
The Ecumenical Patriarch was accompanied by Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, a member of his distinguished entourage during his Apostolic visit to the fifth continent, along with Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, with discussions centered around the Greek Orthodox presence in Australia and various current issues of broader interest.
The Ecumenical Patriarch expressed his gratitude to the Governor for her support and her spirit of cooperation with the Orthodox Church and the Greek community of New South Wales. Finally, the Ecumenical Patriarch extended his personal heartfelt thanks to Governor Beazley for her honorary presence and the warm greeting she offered during his welcoming ceremony at the Cathedral of the Annunciation.
