Today, Wednesday, February 10, 2021, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided over the Divine Liturgy for Saint Charalambos the Wonderworker at the Church of Saint Charalambos in the Community of Bebek in the Region of the Bosphorus.
The Ecumenical Patriarch in his speech after the Divine Liturgy said: “Indeed, Saint Charalambos lived his whole life as a priest and as a Christian, according to the gospel teaching and when the circumstances demanded it, he did not hesitate to offer his life to the Lord, instead of denying Him. The honored Saint was reinforced, according to the apostolic exhortation, by the grace of Jesus Christ, and he suffered as a good soldier of the Lord.
The martyrdom of our Miraculous Saint is mainly and eminently an example of strong and unshakable faith in God, which, when the need arises, reaches even to martyrdom. An example to imitate not only for the clergy, because Saint Charalambos was a priest, but also for everyone.”
The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew welcomed also the new Supervisor of the Bosporus Region, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Kydonia.
