On Thursday, November 14, 2019, the last day of celebrations for the Golden Jubilee of the Metropolis of Belgium and the Exarchate of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was received by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg at the Grand Ducal Palace.
The Ecumenical Patriarch had a long meeting in which he exchanged views with the Grand Duke on the major problems of today’s society. They discussed the great progress of the Holy Metropolis of Benelux which is present in Luxembourg for some decades. The Metropolitan of the Ecumenical Throne represents the Orthodox Church in Luxembourg in the political and religious authorities in Luxembourg.
A doxology was held on the previous day at the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas (Weiler-la-Tour) in order to welcome Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew by the clergy and the faithful. Representatives of the political and diplomatic authorities and religious leaders of the country also attended the doxology. Archbishop of Luxembourg, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, and the president of COMECE were some of those who attended the doxology.
Then a luncheon was held in honor of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
