From April 12 to 14 Metropolitan Meletios of Carthage and North Africa held a pastoral visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in view of the Easter celebrations.
In this country of Islamic fundamentalism there is no Orthodox church and the Divine Liturgy was performed at the Russian Embassy until the efforts of erecting the first Orthodox church in Mauritania can take effect.
During the Metropolitan’s visit, the Orthodox faithful participated in the mystery of confession, Divine Eucharist and other sacraments. On evening, they attended Massaritin’s speech of Protopresbyterian Maximos Massalitin on the life of Saint Maria of Egypt.
Prior to the completion of the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan awarded an honorary plaque to Ambassador Chamov Vladimir Vasilevich for his full support to every pastoral visit of Metropolitan of Carthage to Mauritania.
