The fourth phase of the program “NOSTOS – Return to the Roots” started yesterday in Alexandria, from the city where the same program started in 2018, with the focus on the diaspora young people and their potential to contribute to their communities.
“We are all one people,” said Egypt’s Minister of Immigration and Expatriates Affairs, Nabila Makram, welcoming fifteen young people representing the three countries: Greece, Cyprus and Egypt.
In fact, Macram warmly thanked the Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, Kostas Vlasis, and the Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots, Fotis Fotiou, for their contribution to the success of this new ambitious program, which highlights the close cooperation of the three countries.
The Governor of Alexandria, General Mohamed El Sherif, presented the Egyptian minister with the “golden key” of the city, who is also coming from Alexandria, and in her childhood had contact with the Greek community of the city.
At the same event, the Vice President of the Greek Community of Alexandria, Andreas Vafiadis, conveyed to the Egyptian minister the warm congratulations and thanks of the Greek community for the event, which highlights the role of the Greek community and brings the three peoples closer. The Secretary-General of the Community, Dimitris Kavouras, who actively participates in the fourth phase of the program also congratulated the minister on behalf of the Greek side.
The Cypriot Diaspora of Alexandria also expressed their gratitude for the new initiative, in the presence of the Deputy Ambassador of Cyprus to Egypt, Konstantinos Christofidis and the Secretary-General of the Cypriot Brotherhood in Egypt, Mary Pavlidou.
Today, the fifteen diaspora young people will visit the headquarters of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, where they will be received by Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa and the Greek Community of Alexandria.
