The 4th phase of the program “NOSTOS – Return to the Roots” which starts tomorrow in Alexandria is about to stress the dynamic role of the diaspora youth of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt.
In this city that has inextricably been linked with the history of the diaspora of the three countries, starting from its founding by Alexander the Great and the relations it had developed since Roman times with the city of Paphos, Greek and Cypriot youth together with the Egyptian young, they begin their own journey in search of the roots of their families, their grandparents and their parents.
For this reason, it is particularly important that they visit the Greek Square of Satby, where the Greek community is located, as well as to the Patriarchate of Alexandria, the Cavafy Museum and the Hellenic Naval Club of Alexandria.
The diaspora young people who participate in the program will have the opportunity to meet closely the representatives of the Greek Community of Alexandria as well as the Greek Community of Cairo.
They will also visit the city of Ismailia, to see up close the houses where the Greeks and Cypriots in the past decades and contributed to the creation of the Suez Canal, a project that they will also admire up close with their visit to the new Suez Canal.
At the same time, the participants will be received by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and will visit the Egyptian Parliament and the Library of Alexandria.
They will also meet Egyptian Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Nabila Makram as well as the Ambassadors of Greece and of Cyprus.
The 4th phase of the “NOSTOS – Return to the Roots” program will last in Egypt until July 16. The respective visits to Greece and Cyprus will take place at the end of the month.
