The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kostas Vlasis, was informed about the activities of the Patriarchate of Alexandria by Patriarch Theodore during their meeting today, as he stated via a post on his social media.
The deputy minister welcomed the Patriarch of Alexandria and expressed the respect and joy of both the Greek State and himself as well as his gratitude for the honorary visit of Patriarch Theodore to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Kostas Vlasis praised the diverse work carried out by the Hierarchs of the Church of St Markos, under the spiritual guidance of Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria on a religious, charitable, educational and cultural level. He also expressed his sincere condolences for the passing away of late Metropolitans Elder Petros of Caesarea and Nifonas of Pelusium, who adorned the Church with their work and action.
Patriarch Theodore, according to the same announcement, thanked the deputy minister for his praise and especially for the support of the Greek state in the work of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. He also underlined the multifaceted work of the aforementioned Hierarchs Petros and Nifonas. In addition, he referred to his recently completed pastoral visit to Kenya, specifically to the Metropolis of Nairobi and the Orthodox Dioceses of Kisumu and Eldoret, where he was warmly welcomed by both the local authorities and the flock.
Finally, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Vlassis posted on Twitter: “Today I met with Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa. I was informed about the activities of the Patriarchate and I expressed my congratulations to him for the diverse work that is being carried out under his guidance”.
