Minister of Defence Nikos Panagiotopoulos and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias announced a few days ago the establishment of an independent Defence Diplomacy Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs staffed by military personnel as well as by Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic staff that will be subordinated to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The two ministers signed a memorandum on the cooperation of the two ministries on issues of defence diplomacy, national defence and international relations related to defence issues, said a ministry announcement.
“This modernisation is consistent with the country’s broader dogma, a EU state-member that wishes to be in Europe’s core but also of a country that wants to have excellent relations with all its neighbours, to be a factor of stability and safety in the region” Dendias said.
