The construction of a gas station in the community of Kato Defterra in Cyprus was suspended, following the protests of residents who claimed that the cave on which the Chrysospiliotissa Church is built, is at risk of collapsing.
The cave of Chrysospiliotissa, one of the oldest monuments of the island, which is under the protection of the Department of Antiquities and UNESCO, is in immediate danger if the gas station is built.
After the strong protests, the owner of the gas station met with the members of the Community Council in the evening and decided to suspend the construction of the gas station until they get the expert opinion of the competent authorities.
