A contract for a study regarding the protection of the Holy Monastery of Agia Triada Tsangarolon in Chania, Crete, was signed between the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, the authorities of the region of Crete and the abbot of the Monastery.
The Μinister of Culture said that the cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and, the region of Crete, and the Technical University of Crete was very important and that they aimed at highlighting the cultural and religious monuments of the place.
Moreover, she said, “The Monastery of Agia Triada Tsangarolon has a unique nature and, therefore, it could be, in addition to a cultural and religious epicentre, a great development centre for the regional unit of Chania.” She also stressed, “The Arkadi Monastery in Rethymno, the Monastery of Saint Aikaterini in Heraklion, the Gonia Monastery and the Monastery of Agia Triada Tsangarolon could be four monuments that would highlight in the best possible way a cultural route.”
It was also announced that the Region of Crete, together with the Ministry of Culture, would conduct studies concerning the promotion and development of the sacred monasteries of the island. The abbot of the monastery, Damaskinos Lionakis, referred to the history of the monastery and to the efforts made for the protection and promotion of its sites.
