Bishop Silvester met the catechists of Northern Region of the Diocese at St. Lavrentios Cathedral in Gulu on Sunday.
He welcomed them in joy, encouraged them and gave them words of advice in their service as catechists carrying along with the clergy, a big responsibility of mobilizing, teaching catechumens, helping priests in parishes and communities and even leading faithful in prayer in communities or in parishes during the absence of the priest.
He noted that he prays for continuity of this program of meeting the catechists more often as another way of empowering them in their service.
Also in his message he related to today’s Sunday before the Exaltation of the Cross saying: “As humble people of God, who are also aware of our weaknesses and of His mercy to us, we can only feel proud of standing by His Holy Will in all situations, by carrying His Cross in our lives. That’s what the Apostle Paul is telling us when he says as we saw in today’s reading: (Gal 6:14).”
