Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus spoke on state television about what was happening at the meeting of the Holy Synod.
The Archbishop made special reference to the issue of the COVID-19 pandemic who called once again on the hierarchs to comply with the decisions of the Holy Synod regarding the pandemic.
Among other things, the Archbishop referred to the two main issues that the meeting dealt with, and he mentioned the members of the Holy Synod were informed about the Cyprus issue from Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis.
On the subject of the pandemic, the Archbishop stressed there was a nice and productive discussion with the members of the Holy Synod obeying the decisions of the Synod.
The Archbishop clarified that the pandemic also affected the operation of the hotel properties of the Archdiocese, one of the main sources of funding for the clergy.
Asked to comment on the disobedience of a specific hierarch and clergy, the Archbishop stressed: “Whoever does not comply with the decisions of the Synod will not receive his salary at the end of the month.”
At the same time, he clarified that the vaccination was voluntary, however, regarding the clergy, and especially the hierarchs, they can maintain their views, however, they can not urge the congregation not to be vaccinated.
As for the hierarchs, he clarified that if there were incidents of disobedience from hierarchs regarding the decision of the Holy Synod on vaccination, he would insist that these hierarchs be banned from the Synod.
