Today, Archbishop of Cyprus presided the Archieratic Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great at Agia Paraskevi Church in Lower Lakatamia, Nicosia.
A message by Chrysostomos was also read, urging the Cypriot Hellenism to unite in its prayers for the settlement of the humanitarian issue of the persons who are missing since the Turkish invasion in 1974.
Afterwards, Chrysostomos, during his address to the congregation, read today’s evangelical passage, stressing that those who wish to hold offices or high ranks in society must have a sense of responsibility and modesty.
“Today we condemn the sons of Zebedee, because they could not understand Jesus when he spoke of His Passion and Resurrection, but instead longed for chief places in honor in the kingdom and mortal glory”.
“The Greatness that we seek is not to be found in promotions, glorifications, applause, cheering, bows and praises by others; rather, it lies within ourselves, in everydayness, when we are willing to serve and minister other people, without retribution and recognition” continued Chrysostomos.
The Archbishop of Cyprus concluded as follows: “As for those who seek power and high ranks, if they are not willing to sacrifice themselves for our people, they may as well resign”.
