The Archieratic Vespers, officiated by Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus, was celebrated with all the majesty and ecclesiastical order, on the afternoon of Thursday, January 16, 2020, at the Church of St. Anthony in Nicosia.
The Archbishop, in preaching the Divine Word, referred to the life of Saint Anthony and stated that “our saint from a young age was dedicated to God and with his overwhelming exercise, was able to become a container of God’s Grace.
Many people went into the wilderness to find the ascetic Saint Anthony and seek his advice; emperors, prominent officials, other ascetics and monks. And all this virtue with which he was adorned was the result of his very humility. Only with this humility, my brothers, can we be saved. Only if we have a warm faith that is the result of humility can we experience all this spiritual greatness.
Christ has brought us serenity, peace, mental calm that does not exist nowadays. The greatest honour we have to offer tonight to St. Anthony is not to worship his icon, but to let all that he did in his life, his humility, his faith, his love for God, be to us the only standards for our salvation.”
