During his pastoral visit to Melbourne, Archbishop Makarios of Australia paid a visit to the students of the Greek Diaspora, confirming his paternal love for the new generation and the constant interest of the Holy Archdiocese for its performance and progress.
His first stop was Oakleigh Grammar School, where on the morning of Tuesday, April 20, the inaugural gathering for the second quarter of the current school year took place.
The school community warmly welcomed the Archbishop to the sports center of the school, accompanied by the Archepiscopal Vicar of Melbourne, Bishop Ezekiel of Derby, and the Hierarchical Head of the Parish of Ss Anargyroi in Oakleigh, Fr. Georgios Adamakis.
On Wednesday, April 21, the students, the teaching staff and the administration of St John’s College Preston were pleased to welcome the Archbishop.
Archbishop Makarios visited the school, accompanied by the Archepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, Archimandrite Evmenios Vassilopoulos, and the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Emmanuel Kakavelakis.
Representatives of the students offered the Archbishop a bouquet of flowers as a token of gratitude for his support and constant care, not only for rescuing the College when risking suspending its operation, but also for its upgrade and progress.
During both of his visits, Archbishop Makarios took the time to talk to the students in person, listen to their thoughts and anxieties, and learn about their activities.
At the same time, he gave his blessing to all and urged them to continue to be close to the Church, to take care of their neighbor and to preserve the unity between them. Finally, he assured them that the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and he will be by their side to support them in their every need.
