The 47th FDF Greek Traditional Song and Dance Competition, an annual event organized by the Metropolis of San Francisco, commenced in Anaheim, California, amidst a vibrant atmosphere.
In a hall brimming with Greek-Americans spanning all generations, situated in a central hotel in Anaheim, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America conducted the sanctification rite, heralding the beginning of an amazing “Greek evening” on the west coast of the USA.
Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, in a short address to the overflowing audience, remarked, “You have come to Anaheim to write history. You are Greek Orthodox Christians—never lose sight of that. Your parents, your relatives, make sacrifices to bring you here every year, imparting the lesson that life itself is a dance. May it serve as a guiding principle in your lives.
Tonight, we are honored by the presence of the father of our Archdiocese, Archbishop Elpidophoros, as well as the new Consul of Greece in Los Angeles, Christina Valassopoulou. Remember, maintain pure relationships with your neighbors, be compassionate, show mercy, and always express love—attributes we sometimes overlook.”
Subsequently, Archbishop Gerasimos invited Archbishop Elpidophoros to address the audience. Addressing the young Greek Americans, the Archbishop of America emphasized, “You, my children, are the voice of the Church; you are the voice of the Archdiocese of America.
This year’s FDF theme, ‘Dance for Life,’ carries profound significance. Over two generations, this motto has imbued dancing with a purpose—imbued it with faith. Congratulations to San Francisco for this accomplishment.”
Continuing his address, he reminisced, “From within this remarkable Metropolis, this event holds a special place in my heart. Ten years ago, you embraced me with enthusiasm as Metropolitan of Constantinople, of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Today, I witness that same enthusiasm.
This event stands as a proof to our Greek Orthodox faith. Each one of you deserves commendation. Like a Greek dance, you are all united in one Church under the love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The bonds that unite you are stronger than you realize. Dance for life, dance to life.”
