Minister of Defense of Cyprus Savvas Angelidis met with Archbishop Demetrios of America in the United States, on April 1st.
The Cypriot Minister briefed Archbishop Demetrios, during the meeting, on the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.
Please note that Savvas Angelidis was accompanied by the Consul General of Cyprus in New York, Alexis Phaedonos.
“I had the opportunity to meet with the Archbishop of America in order to receive his blessing and advice. But I also had the opportunity to exchange views and let him know what is going on in Cyprus. I spoke about some concerns, but also about issues that concern him,” said Angelidis.
The Minister of Defense thanked the Archbishop for exchanging views and receiving his messages, stressing that he will carry them wherever necessary and that the struggle for Cyprus will continue. “A struggle” he said “whose outcome at the end of the day will be for the benefit of our people and nation.”
Archbishop Demetrios, for his part, thanked Angelidis for the pleasant, honourable and constructive occasion of the visit of the Minister of Defense.
“We did something that had not happened in any other case: the whole time that the Minister was in this office, was dedicated in discussing the issues of Cyprus. It is a record for today, but it shows that we are dealing with a subject that concerns us and we cannot just leave it and move on to other issues. Cyprus was the number one and the only one issue,” he underlined.
