On Sunday, July 14, the memory of the New Martyr Neophytos of Amorgos, who martyred in Lipsi in the Dodecanese, was celebrated solemnly in Amorgos, in the presence of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece.
Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia presided over the Divine Liturgy accompanied by Metropolitan Epiphanios of Thera, Amorgos and Nisoi, and Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese of Athens, Bishop Simeon of Thespies.
The Divine Word was proclaimed by Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia, who referred to the life and martyrdom of Saint Neophytus as well as the virtues every Christian must have in order to spread the Gospel in the modern world.
Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Epiphanios warmly welcomed the Archbishop and the Mayor of Amorgos offered an honorary plaque to the Archbishop.
The Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa in Amorgos, Archimandrite Spyridon Denakas, also offered to Archbishop Ieronymos a replica of the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary of Hozoviotissa, the patron saint of the island.
