With the blessings and wishes of Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, Metropolitan Makarios of Nairobi inaugurated a temple dedicated to St. George, at the outskirts of Nairobi.
The ceremony was attended by all the priests of the surrounding areas and their faithful, who started arriving early in the morning.
Twenty visitors – pilgrims from the temple of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Anthoupolis, Nicosia, also attendeded, led by the head of the church, Michael Efthimiou.
During the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Makarios ordained Deacon Emmanuel, a graduate of the Patriarchal School, an Elder.
In the end, Metropolitan Makarios thanked God for his 40 years of serving as a simple professor, catechist and preacher and for his more than 27 years as an Archpriest in East and south Africa.
He characterized this a miracle and a gift, saying that, during this distant course, only the dynamic presence of Christ supported, strengthened and encouraged him in the difficult but still blessed work of offering and loving men of various tribes and cultures of the Black Continent.
