After a large police operation, the offender was arrested around 9 in the evening, who stole the votive offerings from the icon of Panagia Portaitissa at the Monastery of Iviron, Mount Athos.
The offender is a 56-year-old Romanian national who was located in a forest area in the wider area of the Zograf monastery.
As it was reported, the votive offerings found earlier in a mountainous area of Mount Athos were some of those which were looted by the 56-year-old offender.
Police authorities are investigating why the 56-year-old was in Mount Athos. A helicopter of the Hellenic Coast Guard also took part in the operation to locate the offender.
