There was a procession of the relics of Saint Jovan Vladimir, to which the Christian and the Muslim community paid their respects in the homonymous monastery, near Elbasan, Albania, on Tuesday, June 4.
After the Divine Liturgy, officiated by Metropolitan Nathanail of Amantia, and Metropolitan Andon of Elbasan, there was a procession, flanked by the clergy and many believers from various parts of Albania, among them politicians as well as representatives of other religions.
The ruler’s relic was buried, according to a tradition, initially in Prespa, in the temple of Saint Achillius, where he was murdered.
Later, his wife, Kosara, transported and reburied his relics in Krajina, near Lake Skadar.
The relic was transported to Durres in 1215 by the Byzantine Despot of Epirus, Michael I.
In 1368 Karlo Thopia, an Albanian lord, transported it to the Church of St Jovan Vladimir near Elbasan.
