LAST UPDATE 12:26
The meeting of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with Archbishop Elpidophoros of America in New York will take place at 13.00 (NY time), 20:00 (Greek time), at the UN.
The crisis had already subsided after the statement made by the Archbishop of America late Thursday night.
As reported by SKAI, the Government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou spoke today about a meeting between the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.
As he explained, whatever was to be said, was said. “The Archbishop himself made a clarifying statement that was completely explanatory and everyone got the answers they should get.
Being at the same event as the head of an unrecognized state could be avoided. The issue for the government is completely over after the explanations given and I think there will be a meeting with Mitsotakis”, he pointed out.
Yesterday, late in the afternoon it became known that the prime minister will not go to Ground Zero, where Archbishop Elpidoforos was going to guide him to the church of Saint Nicholas.
The reason for postponing Mitsotakis’ visit was the addition of new meetings to his schedule in New York, such as the one with the management team of the Wall Street Journal.
It seems, however, that the new statement of the Archbishop of America, who stressed that he regrets the suffering he caused to Cypriots and Greek Americans, is now changing the climate, and leaving an open “window” for a Mitsotakis-Elpidophoros meeting, as the government implied, Giannis Oikonomou.
