The monk of Mount Athos, who was diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, has been intubated in the ICU of Papanikolaou General Hospital in a stable condition.
The 49-year-old monk lives in the St. Panteleimon Monastery, as reported in kathimerini.gr.
On July 2, the Karyes Health Center was notified, as his health condition was not good and he was immediately transferred to Papanikolaou Hospital.
There he was tested for COVID-19 and was diagnosed positive for the delta variant.
“He could not breathe, he needed intubation and positive pressure and within two days he was admitted to the ICU with great damage to the lungs, just like the virulence of the British mutation.
In addition, this man was in a hermitage on Mount Athos, so he did not have many contacts,” said the director of the 2nd ICU of Papanikolaou Hospital, Nikos Kapravelos, speaking to voria.gr.
As he said, he had not been vaccinated against the COVID-19.
