The Church commemorates Olympas, Herodion, Sosipater and Tertius and the Apostles of the Seventy Disciples and Martyr Orestes.
Saint Orestes came from Tyana in Cappadocia. During the reign of Emperor Diocletian, the ruler Maximus tried in various ways to entice him to renounce his faith in Jesus Christ. The ruler asked him: “Why do you refuse to accept the worship that our emperors so reverently accept?” Martyr Orestes answered him that he could recognize no emperor other than the Almighty God. The earth began to tremble, and the idols fell down and were smashed.
Immediately, Maximus the martyr to be tied to a horse, which dragged the saint over the stones and stopped only after he had traveled twenty-four miles. Saint Orestes was deemed worthy to receive the wreath of martyrdom.
