Metropolitan Emmanuel of France celebrated today, on the 2nd Sunday of Luke, the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Church of St. Stephen in Paris.
Moreover, he referred to today’s Gospel passage and spoke of the concept of Christian love as it was taught by our Lord: “We should place love at the centre of our lives. A love that comes from God and is not affected by human weaknesses. As it is written in the Gospels of John and Matthew, the new commandment, the only commandment is ‘to love one another’.The Lord teaches us to love our enemies, to do good deeds and to expect nothing in return. He teaches us to be merciful toward all human beings, as He is, even toward people who are ungrateful. Christ clearly lays the foundations for our loving relationship with our fellow human beings, which is free from personal interests and favours in return.
The Metropolitan of France also mentioned the current difficult situation we are experiencing due to the coronavirus pandemic that has taken the lives of many people and spread misery and financial problems worldwide. “In a period of the pandemic, we need more than ever charity and solidarity with our brethren. It is an opportunity to put into practice what the Lord has taught us in the New Testament. Each person will find a way to stand by to the suffering people that God sends them on their way. These people do not ask for anything more than a smile, some kind words, and to spend some time with them,” he pointed out.
