At the mercy of God were left the monks of the Holy Monastery of St. Gerasimos in the Desert of Jordan after the appearance of the pandemic of the coronavirus. The prevailing climate was conveyed by Elder Chrysostomos with his intervention on the television channel of ANT1 Cyprus.
“From the beginning of the pandemic, at the end of February onwards, no one comes and unfortunately here in Israel they did not take this disease so seriously and now there is a great outbreak”, the Elder said characteristically.
Then he expressed his fear for the situation while talking about incidents within the Patriarchate, some of which were taken to hospitals in the country.
“I am afraid and I am taking precautions, there is a curfew imposed by Israel as well,” the Elder added, while at the same time explained that only seven of the 25 people who were there before remained in the monastery.
He went on to say that there was a general outbreak of the virus and called on people to follow the instructions of the scientists as well as the laws.
Asked to comment on how long the pandemic will last, the Elder noted that “I am not a scientist, I am an illiterate but I see that people do not obey, in Greece, in Europe and there is an upsurge and we will have it for a long time. May God put His Hand “.
Finally, when asked if they have the necessary things in the monastery for their survival, he said that with God’s help they manage.
