Following the decision of the conversion of the majestic church and historical symbol into a mosque, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet announced that the Hagia Sophia hagiographies would be covered thanks to special technology and lighting.
Moreover, during the prayer, special curtains would be placed on the wall, as well as carpets on the floor, over which lights will be shed so as the place becomes darker and the hagiographies are not visible. Other Turkish newspapers were on on the same wavelength; Yeni Safak spoke of the “resurrection” of Hagia Sophia and Turkiye ran the headline: “The suffering of the Hagia Sophia mosque is over. We broke the shackles after 86 years.” Finally, Sabah ran the headline: “Nostalgia for Hagia Sophia is over”.
