With reverence, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria ordained on Thursday the new Metropolitan of Kisumu and Western Kenya, Markos, in the temple of Saint Savvas Sanctified, from the historical Greek Orthodox monasteries of Africa that have linked their history with the Hellenism of Egypt.
Welcoming the new Metropolitan to assume the high priesthood, the Alexandrian Primate spoke of the privilege the Alexandrian Church always had of being the Church of the poor and the afflicted, in an Alexandria that for many centuries has been the centre of Theology.
Patriarch Theodore pointed out the love of the new Bishop for the Church and the Second Patriarchate of Orthodoxy.
The ceremony of the ordination was attended by Elder Metropolitan Makarios of Nairobi, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Johannesburg, Metropolitan Savvas of Sudan, Metropolitan Narcissos of Nafkratis and Patriarchal Commissioner of Alexandria, Bishop Nicodemus of Nitria and Exarch of the Patriarchate in Cyprus, and Bishop Germanos of Tamiathus and Abbot of the Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas of Alexandria.
