With feelings of deep emotion and gratitude to the Triune God, the clergy and laity of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia received the decisions of the Holy and Sacred Synod for the establishment of new dioceses in the cities of Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Chora.
These decisions, made upon the proposal of Archbishop Makarios and the recommendation of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, were accompanied by the election of new Auxiliary Bishops.
The people of the Archdiocese, together with the new Bishops, express their gratitude and eagerly await the Apostolic Visit of the Patriarch to Australia.
In this atmosphere of joy, the faithful are invited to attend the formal announcement of the election (Mega Minima) of the new bishops, which will take place on July 22 at St. Spyridon Church in Kingsford.
Announcement from the Archdiocese of Australia
With great emotion and feelings of praise to the Triune God, the clergy and laity of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia were informed of the decisions of the Holy and Sacred Synod regarding the establishment of the Dioceses of Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Region, following the proposal of our Archbishop and the recommendation of our Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. With the same feelings of inner joy, we also heard the announcement of the election of the present Auxiliary Bishops of our Archbishop in the new dioceses.
Both our Most Reverend Shepherd Archbishop Makarios and the new Bishops Elpidios of Perth, Silouan of Adelaide, Kyriakos of Melbourne, Eumenios of Chora, and Bartholomew of Brisbane, as well as all the faithful of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, express their deep gratitude to the venerable person of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and thank the members of the Holy and Sacred Synod. We all eagerly await the Patriarch of the Nation in Australia on an extended apostolic visit, which will give the people the opportunity to demonstrate their feelings of gratitude and devotion to him and to the Great Church of Constantinople.
With the dawn of the new century and following the decisive decisions of our Ecumenical Patriarchate, which truly support the vision of our Archbishop and transform the administration of the local Church, we feel that we are now “ready for the future” as the Archbishop declared during the 12th Clergy-Laity Congress.
In this atmosphere of joy and gratitude to the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Mother Church, and of praise to God, the faithful of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia are invited to attend the formal announcement of the election (Mega Minima) of the new Bishops, which will be held on Monday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Spyridon Church in Kingsford, before the scheduled meeting of the Archdiocesan Council.
