On July 12, 2024, in honor of the temple feast day, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Topčider.
“True love, the kind that is crucified, is exemplified by the apostles Peter and Paul. This is the essence of their message. This is why the Lord asks the apostle Peter three times, ‘Do you love me?’ (John 21:16-18). This question is fundamental: it probes whether we truly love God.
Love God, and do not be afraid! Love God, and act according to your heart’s desire! If we love God, we know that it is impossible to act contrary to that love, which includes acting against our neighbor. Even if we stumble or stray, forgetting about God and others, our love for God—when it is the foundation of our existence—will lead us back through repentance, self-awareness, and understanding of both God and ourselves. We will return to our roots, to our Father’s house, and to our true selves,” preached the Patriarch.
