During the night between September 10 and 11, 2024, two Orthodox churches in Petrinja were desecrated by vandals, who left hateful and intolerant graffiti. The targeted churches were Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker, located in the center of Petrinja, and Saint Father Nicholas at the local Orthodox cemetery.
The Church of Saint Spyridon, which has been under construction since 2019, has been vandalized seven times, with the most recent attack involving graffiti on the bell tower. Similarly, the Church of Saint Father Nicholas, originally built in 1798 and recently renovated, was defaced with graffiti on its western facade.
Following the report from the Church Municipality of Petrinja, criminal police teams conducted investigations at the scenes, and charges were filed against the unknown perpetrators.
