“Despite my sincere wish and expectation, my term of office has become relatively short, as you already know, my replacement is imminent. This morning I contacted my new administrator, my respected friend Athanasios Martinos, and we discussed for a long time, wished him good luck and thanked him for his support throughout my term”, Mr. Konstantinos Dimtsas said during his farewell address towards the monks of Mount Athos, at the Holy Monastery of Iviron.
He added that all this time was quite fruitful: “I must confess that my passing through Athos has been a tremendous honor and a blessing to me”.
“I took over the position of political Administrator with heartfelt sentiments, feeling great honor and sincere joy. It is not, of course, a position of power, but a missionary service of the Land and its People”, continued Mr. Dimtsas.
“Mount Athos is in fact a ‘unique place’ providing a ‘special way of living’, a ‘place’ and a ‘way’ that bear the burden of long History and a unique Tradition from which it originates”.
“Therefore, Mount Athos does not need us, because it is surrounded by the strong and invincible Protection of Virgin Mary, we need Mount Athos, as a spiritual and cultural meaning and rejuvenation, individual and collective one, especially under the present conditions of the pervasive intellectual drought of the modern world”.
