The Director of the A.G. Leventis Foundation of Nicosia, Charalambos Bakirtzis, expressed his satisfaction on his visit to the Patriarchate of Alexandria, where he closely observed how well the manuscript conservation programme has progressed.
A programme that the A.G. Leventis Foundation supports financially but at the same time, it joins forces with the Patriarchate of Alexandria as well as with the famous Library of Alexandria (Biblioteca Alexandrina).
In his remarks to the CNA, Mr. Bakirtzis expressed his heartfelt congratulations to those who put their scientific knowledge and training to retrieve from the past and to preserve manuscripts counting hundreds of centuries of history.
Receiving the preserved manuscripts and flicking through the volumes, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria warmly thanked the Leventis Foundation. Thanks were also expressed by the Archsecretary of the Holy Synod, F. Nicodemus Totkas.
The Patriarch of Alexandria warmly thanked all the contributors and the Library of Alexandria for their contribution to the preservation of a great cultural treasure.
“Already, we have preserved 75 of the hundred manuscripts we had planned,” said Program Coordinator Michalis Solomonides, visiting the premises of the Patriarchal Library.
