The Holy Metropolis of Belgium celebrated the Luxembourgish National Day on Sunday, June 30, 2019
In the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Luxembourg, an Archieratic Divine Liturgy was celebrated by the Metropolitan of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Athenagoras, along with priests and deacons of the Metropolis, as well as priests of the Patriarchates of Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria.
In his sermon, Metropolitan Athenagoras referred to the grace of the apostolic call, which turned ordinary fishermen into teachers of the world.
The end of the Divine Liturgy was followed by the established official Doxology for the feast of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Henri, which is the National Day of the state. Mr. Hubert Clasen from the Palace, on behalf of the Grand Duke, Priest Georges Hellinghausen, on behalf of the Roman Catholic Archbishop, Mr. Vincent Reding, Mayor of Weiler-la-Tour where the temple is located, and Mr. Louis-Alkiviadis Abatis, Ambassador of Greece to the Grand Duchy were present at the Doxology.
At the end of the official Doxology, the Metropolitan thanked the attended officials as well as the crowded congregation, which, at the beginning of the summer and of summer holidays, rushed to celebrate the Luxembourgish National Day in the Orthodox Church.
