“The message of peace in the Mediterranean, which with all their might is supported by Greece, Egypt and Cyprus”, gave today from Alexandria, Patriarch Theodore, on the 16th anniversary of his election as Prelate of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
It was October 9, 2004, when Metropolitan Theodore of Zimbabwe was elected unanimously by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria as the 126th Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
And it was exactly 16 years later that the Primate of Alexandria ascended again to the flower-decorated despotic throne of the historic patriarchal monastery of St. Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria carrying the message of peace throughout the region.
“In the great institution of peace in the Mediterranean Sea, I want to send a message to all those around the blessed country of Egypt: Egypt, our Greece and our Cyprus are strong. They are peaceful. But, they are also ready at any moment to say that we love our borders, we love peace and we fight for it”, said characteristically the Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria.
The Patriarch of Alexandria also referred to the great thorn of the world pandemic, emphasizing in particular:
“Our brothers who fell ill from the pandemic are a big thorn in the side. There are three pandemics: it is the great pandemic of AIDS, where you can think of how many millions have died and in fact on our African continent. The second from Ebola which is a big pandemic and third, the coronavirus was added. And let me ask the merciful God to oversee from heaven, so that we overcome the pandemic and the wine of love flows into our hearts from the Holy Grail”.
Finally, Patriarch Theodore spoke with a consoling speech about “poverty, as winter is approaching, there will be rain and snow and people are anxious and feel insecure and together we will face the problem”, said the Alexandrian Primate.
It made sense that the Patriarch of Alexandria described it as a “small miracle”, that in 2004, the diplomatic passport of the then Metropolitan of Zimbabwe expired on October 8, without anyone ever knowing that on October 9 he would be elected Patriarch of Alexandria!
On behalf of the Holy and Sacred Synod, the Patriarch of Alexandria was greeted by the Metropolitan of Ermoupolis and Patriarchal Commissioner for the Arabs Nikolaos.
The diplomatic authorities were represented by Consul General Athanasios Kotsionis, through whom Patriarch Theodoros thanked Greece.
