On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, with the blessing of Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, World Council of Churches General Secretary Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay made a notable visit to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center.
Dr. Nicolas Kazarian, Director of the Department of Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical & Interfaith Relations welcomed General Secretary Pillay as part of his first official visit to the United States before going to Washington D.C. the next day.
General Secretary Pillay was joined during his visit by Dr. Angelique Walker-Smith, WCC President from North America, Dr. Kenneth Mtata, WCC Director of Public Witness and Diakonia, as well as Dr. Ryan Smith, WCC Program Executive & Representative to the UN Headquarters.
